Families Who Worked With Somrak

PS

Pornthip S.

Bangkok, Thailand

My mother passed earlier this year and I had no idea where to begin with the estate. A friend suggested Somrak. The Overview session put things in order — I left understanding exactly what was needed and felt much calmer about the whole situation. We later moved forward with the full filing support and it went more smoothly than I'd expected.

My Thai father-in-law died leaving property in his name and a somewhat complicated family situation. Somrak handled the correspondence with the land office and the bank entirely in Thai on our behalf, while keeping me fully informed in English throughout. The communication was genuinely good — they kept us updated without us having to chase.

Wanchai K.

Chon Buri, Thailand

We had a straightforward estate but I wanted someone experienced to check we weren't missing anything. The Overview was worth every baht. There were two documents I hadn't thought to gather and one procedural step I hadn't known was required. It took about two months in total which was quicker than I'd expected for a probate matter.

I was managing my father's estate while also managing my own grief, and having someone who could just take the administrative side completely off my hands made a real difference. Nattaya at Somrak was particularly patient when I had to ask the same question more than once. I never felt rushed.

Australian, based in Sydney

I was coordinating from Australia after my husband's mother died, with his siblings handling things from different parts of Thailand. Somrak managed the central coordination admirably — keeping all parties informed and preparing documents that needed notarisation for use in both countries. The cross-border element was handled without drama.

Bangkok, Thailand

The matter involved three siblings with differing views about how the estate should be divided. Somrak navigated that carefully — always focused on what the law required rather than taking sides. It did take longer than I'd hoped, but I think that was inevitable given the circumstances. Things ended reasonably for everyone.

Case Studies

How Matters Came Together

A look at two different situations and how the Somrak team approached them.

Case Study 01

Estate with property in Bangkok and a beneficiary overseas

The Situation

A Bangkok property and two bank accounts needed to be transferred to two heirs — one based in Thailand, one living in Germany. The overseas heir was unable to travel to Thailand and all documents needed to meet Thai court requirements while being recognised abroad.

Our Approach

We handled the probate application and property transfer locally. For the overseas heir, we prepared notarised documents and coordinated with their Thai Embassy in Berlin for the requisite certification. Regular updates were shared with both siblings throughout the four-month process.

Outcome

Property transferred and bank accounts divided within four months. Both heirs received copies of all documentation. The overseas heir did not need to travel to Thailand at any point during the process.

"I was relieved it could all be handled without me flying back. They kept me informed by email throughout." — the overseas beneficiary

Case Study 02

A family beginning with no will and differing expectations

The Situation

Four adult children came to us after their parent's death with no will. Different family members had different recollections of what had been intended, and the initial atmosphere was tense. The estate included a house, a small business share, and savings accounts.

Our Approach

We began with an Overview session attended by all four siblings together. Explaining the statutory succession rules — and what they meant for this specific estate — helped establish a shared factual basis. We then handled the administration under Thai intestate rules, maintaining communication with each sibling separately and collectively as needed.

Outcome

The matter was resolved through proper statutory distribution over approximately six months. The siblings reached an informal agreement regarding the family home that went beyond what law required, which they were able to do with clarity about their respective legal positions.

"Having someone explain the rules clearly to all of us at once made a real difference to how we approached it as a family." — one of the siblings
